Dealing With the DM Shortage
As many of you may have noticed, we are in the midst of a DM shortage at the moment. This has been leading to a higher than normal amount of cancelled tables. In order to try and fix the pain associated with this we are going to do be doing a few things:
- More DM workshops: We will be scheduling more workshops to help players become GMs, and new GMs become more comfortable. You can see all of our upcoming workshops here.
- DM Socials: We are having a DM social at the Guild House on the 29th. This is an event for seasoned DMs and the DM-curious alike. This is not a structured event, more of a chance to have a bunch of conversations, share tips and tricks and just have nice evening. Tickets are availablehere.
- Making first sessions less scary: If you are interested in being a GM but are a bit nervous about your first game there are a few things we can do to help settle any nerves you might have. This includes simple things like tagging your table as "New DM", assigning you a DM co-pilot to help fill in any gaps you are worried about, maybe even having a night of ALL new DMs to make you more comfortable. If you are interested in any of this, or have other ideas on how we can get you running games just let me know!
- Reducing the number of tables scheduled: This one kind of sucks, but not as much as having your table cancelled at the last minute. Unless things change in the next couple weeks we will be cutting back on some events in April until we get back to an equilibrium.
Worried about learning the new rules?
For many GMs the switch to 5.5 seems to be a bit of a roadblock. If you are unsure about what has changed in the game, the answer is likely "less than you think". Our very own Joel P has taken the time to put together a handy guide detailing all the changes, you can find it here.
New Discord Policy
Along with streamlining some channels and whatnot, we are instituting a new policy in regards to non-TOD&D games. Essentially, the LFG channel is being renamed to #HomeGames and only home games can be posted there. Here is the official policy:
- No posting of games or events is allowed outside of the #HomeGames channel.
- All games posted in #HomeGames must be non-paid, home games. If you are playing at a venue that has a seating fee that is fine, but the payment must be going directly to the venue, not to the DM or any other organization.
- The games posted in #HomeGames must be run and organized by a player or DM who will be at the table, not by a business or any other organization.
- It must be clear that these games are in no way affiliated with TorontoDND.
- Any games posted here MUST abide by our policies regarding inclusivity and safety. If they do not you will be permanently banned from the server.
