et in the years between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, The One Ring is the official tabletop roleplaying game of J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. Players form a Company of heroes drawn from the Heroic Cultures of the north: Bardings, Dwarves of Durin's Folk, Elves of Lindon, Hobbits of the Shire, Men of Bree and Rangers of the North. The game is built to feel like Tolkien rather than generic fantasy. Journeys across the wild are a full part of play, combat is dangerous and rarely the best answer, and every hero carries Hope against the Shadow, which grows with fear, despair and misdeeds. Between adventures, the Fellowship Phase lets heroes rest, grow and tend to their homes. The second edition from Free League uses a d12 Feat die plus a pool of d6 Success dice, and won the Gold ENNIE for Best Interior Art in 2022.
