Have you heard of “Powered by the Apocalypse” games, and wondered what all the fuss is about? Have you played a Powered by the Apocalypse game, but bounced off it for one reason or another? Do you want to branch out from D&D, and don’t know where to start?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, this workshop may be for you. Powered by the Apocalypse (PbtA) games are varied and diverse, and can offer a rewarding gaming experience, but can be a bit unintuitive the first time you encounter them.
Once you’ve got a handle on the basics of one PbtA game, learning a new PbtA game is generally very quick. With how many different PbtA games there are to choose from, learning about PbtA will unlock an astounding array of different genres and settings to play in.
In this workshop, we will cover the following topics:
- What is a PbtA game?
- How to approach PbtA games as a player
- How to approach PbtA games as a GM
- Important differences between PbtA and D&D
At the end of the workshop, we will also be playing a session of Masks: A New Generation, a PbtA game about teenage superheroes.
